Spindle turning - Spindle turning is a woodturning method refering to a piece of wood on a woodlathe that is being turned on its center axis between the headstock and tailstock of the lathe. The wood is generally removed by running a turning tool (See Woodturning for a list of woodturning tools) down the slope of the wood from a larger diameter in the wood to a smaller diameter. Machine taper - In the design of machine tools there is a need for users to be able to quickly and easily install or remove particular cutting bits or other accessories from the powered rotating spindle of the machine tool. One example is a lathe headstock, which has a rotating spindle to which one may want to mount a spur drive. Turning - Turning, CNC turning, or manual turning is the process used to produce cylindrical components in a lathe. Lathe faceplate - A faceplate is the basic workholding accessory for a wood or metal turning lathe. It is a circular metal (usually cast iron) plate which fixes to the end of the lathe spindle.
